Terms of Service

Last updated 18 October 2026

The short version

PocketPrices helps you catalogue trading cards and see what they are worth. The prices are estimates from marketplace data, not appraisals — do not buy, sell or insure anything on the strength of a number here without checking it yourself. Pro costs $7 a month or $60 a year, renews until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from your own billing page. We are not affiliated with The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, TCGplayer or any card publisher or marketplace.

Using PocketPrices means accepting these terms

By creating an account or using the site, you agree to this agreement and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

You need to be at least 13 years old to have an account. If you are under 18, you may only subscribe to Pro with the permission of a parent or guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf.

What PocketPrices is — and is not

It is a catalogue and a tracker
You record the cards you own and want, organise them into binders, and see current market estimates and how they have moved.
It is not an appraisal or valuation service
Nothing here is a professional opinion of value. A card's real price depends on its condition, its printing, grading, and who happens to want it that week — none of which a database knows about your specific copy.
It is not a marketplace
You cannot buy or sell through PocketPrices. Marking an item for trade or sale records your own intention; it creates no listing and no obligation, and we are not party to anything you arrange elsewhere.
It is not a grading service
Scanning identifies which card is in a photograph. It makes no judgement about condition, authenticity or grade.

Prices: where they come from and what they mean

Card prices are collected from third-party marketplace data, mostly TCGplayer market prices, and refreshed roughly once a day. That means every price you see is historical by up to a day, and often longer for cards that trade rarely. Prices older than 3 days are marked as stale in the interface, which is a signal to check elsewhere rather than a defect.

Some cards carry a reference price instead — the same card in another language, labelled as such. Chinese-language cards have no marketplace of their own, so where we can we show what the Japanese printing trades for. That is a point of comparison, nothing more. It is marked on screen, it is not a price for the card you hold, and it is excluded from your collection total.

Collection and binder totals are the sum of those estimates. They are a rough figure for your own interest and are not suitable for insurance, tax, probate, lending or any other purpose that needs a real valuation. We do not guarantee that any price is accurate, current or achievable.

Your account

Keep it to yourself
You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password private. Tell us if you think someone else has access.
One person, one account
Accounts are for individuals. Do not share logins to get around scan limits or a subscription.
Your data is yours
The binders, cards, notes and prices you record belong to you. You can edit or delete any of it at any time, and the Privacy Policy explains how to delete the account entirely.
We may need to use it to run the service
Only to operate PocketPrices for you — store it, back it up, show it to you. We do not sell it and we do not publish it. If sharing features arrive, anything public will be something you deliberately choose to publish.

Scanning and fair use

Free accounts get 5 scans a day, counted per use of the scanner rather than per card — a whole binder page photographed at once is one scan. The allowance resets at midnight Pacific time. Visitors without an account get a small trial allowance, limited per browser and per network.

Each scan costs us real computation, so these limits exist to keep the service viable rather than to be annoying. Please do not automate the scanner, share credentials to multiply an allowance, or try to route around the limits. We may suspend accounts or networks that do.

Pro subscriptions

Price: $7 per month, or $60 per year
Charged in US dollars. Tax may be added where we are registered to collect it.
It renews automatically
Your card is charged at the start of each period until you cancel. That is how subscriptions work, and we would rather say it plainly here than surprise you later.
Cancel whenever you like
From your own billing page, reached by the Pro badge in the header. No email required, no retention call. Pro then runs to the end of the period you have already paid for — you do not lose the rest of the month.
Refunds: 14 days, on request, no questions
If you subscribe and it is not what you wanted, email us within 14 days of the charge and we will refund it. After that, a cancellation stops future charges rather than refunding past ones. If something was clearly broken and you paid for it anyway, tell us — we would rather refund you than argue.
If a payment fails
Stripe retries a failed card for a few days, and Pro keeps working while it does, because a card expiring is not the same as changing your mind. If the retries do not succeed, the subscription ends.
What happens when Pro ends
Nothing you scanned or recorded is removed. Your cards, binders and history stay exactly as they are; you simply go back to the free scan allowance.
Prices can change
If we change what Pro costs, we will tell existing subscribers before it affects them, and you can cancel rather than accept it.
Payments are handled by Stripe
We never see or store your card number. Stripe is the payment processor and its own terms apply to the payment itself.

Card names, images and other people's property

Card names, artwork, set names and logos are the property of their respective owners — The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, Creatures, GAME FREAK and others. PocketPrices is an independent, unofficial project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any card publisher, marketplace or grading company.

Parts of our card catalogue are derived from TCGdex, used under the MIT License, which permits commercial use and requires this notice. Price estimates are compiled from third-party marketplace data.

Card images are shown to help you identify and organise your collection. If you own rights in material shown here and would like it removed, email us and we will act on it — see the contact address below.

How we make money

Two ways, and we would rather you knew both.

Pro subscriptions
$7 a month or $60 a year, described above. This is the main one, and the reason the free tier can stay generous.
Affiliate commission on outbound links
When you follow a link from a card to eBay or TCGplayer and buy something, we may earn a commission from that marketplace. It costs you nothing — the price is the same either way.

Affiliate links never affect what we show you. Those links are built automatically from the card you are already looking at. Nothing is ranked, promoted, reordered or included because it pays us more, and no price shown here is influenced by commission. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

Things you may not do

Scrape or bulk-extract the catalogue
The card data, prices and images here are assembled at our cost and in several cases licensed from others. Do not harvest them, and do not build a competing dataset or service out of them.
Resell or redistribute our data
Use PocketPrices to manage your own collection, not to supply prices to someone else's product.
Attack or overload the service
No probing for vulnerabilities, no denial of service, no attempting to reach other users' data. If you find a security problem, please report it to us instead of exploiting it — we will be glad you did.
Break the law with it
Including using it for fraud, or to launder, fence or misrepresent goods.

Availability, and the fact that this is a small project

PocketPrices is built and run by one person. There is no uptime guarantee, no support SLA, and features may change or be removed. We may take the service down for maintenance, and occasionally something will break. We will try to be quick and honest about it.

We also depend on third parties — Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare, Stripe and the marketplace data sources. When one of them has a bad day, so do we.

If we ever shut the service down, we will give notice and a way to export your collection before it goes.

Ending things

You can stop at any time: cancel Pro from your billing page, and ask us to delete your account whenever you want.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, particularly for abuse of the scanner, attacks on the service, or attempts to extract the catalogue. Where it is something fixable we will contact you first. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of the period.

No warranties, and limits on what we owe you

PocketPrices is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and the accuracy of any price, identification or total shown.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to PocketPrices is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or $50. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — including trading decisions you make, a sale at a price you regret, lost profits, or loss of data beyond restoring from our ordinary backups.

Nothing here is meant to exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded, such as for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case the narrowest permitted version applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in California. PocketPrices is operated from the United States and is intended for users there.

Changes to these terms

We may update this page as the product changes. If a change materially affects your rights — pricing, refunds, liability — we will notify account holders before it takes effect. Continuing to use PocketPrices after a change means accepting it. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
